Studio portrait of 3426 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Archibald Edgar Pringle, 45th Battalion of Petersham, NSW. A carriage builder prior to enlistment, L/Cpl Pringle embarked on board HMAT Port Lincoln (A17) with the 13th Battalion on 13 October 1915. After further training in the Middle East, he was transferred to the 45th Battalion and arrived in France in June 1916. From August 1916 he served with the 45th Battalion at Pozieres, France and at Ypres and Messines in Belgium. L/Cpl Pringle was promoted to corporal on 27 April 1917. On 7 June 1917 Cpl Pringle was killed in action at Messines. He was 25 years of age. On the back of the portrait ,which L/Corporal Pringle sent to his mother, he wrote: "HAPPY NEW YEAR France 19/11/16. My Dear Mother, I do sincerely hope that you find this the best New Year Card I have ever sent you and I am sure will make you feel that we are together in person, and that we are for certain together in thought. God's Guidance through all the coming year. Your Loving son Archie."
