Description

Outdoor portrait of NX36956 Bombardier (Bdr) Stanley Clavering Alder, 2/1 Heavy Battery, Royal Australian Artillery, of Campsie, NSW. Bdr Alder enlisted on 19 June 1941 and served in Timor with Sparrow Force where he was captured by the Japanese on 23 February 1942. En route to Japan, he was killed at sea after the prison ship he was travelling in, the Tamahoko Maru, was torpedoed by the United States navy submarine USS Tang on 24 June 1944.
