Studio portrait of 2101 Private (Pte) Eustace Adams, 19th Battalion, of Norfolk Island. A farmer and labourer prior to enlisting in July 1915, Pte Adams embarked from Sydney with the 4th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Argyllshire (A8) on 30 September 1915. After further training in Egypt, he arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 25 March 1916. He was wounded in action at Pozieres, France, by a gun shot wound to the face, on 2 August 1916. After recovery and leave in England, he returned to the front on 10 September 1917. On 29 September 1917, he was killed in action near Zonnebeke, Ypres, Belgium. Pte Adams was 23 years of age.
