Studio portrait of NX29327 Sergeant (Sgt) Barrymore (Barry) John Teape-Davis, 2/7th Cavalry Regiment, of Newcastle, NSW. Sgt Teape-Davis enlisted in June 1940 in the 7th Division Cavalry Regiment. The regiment left Sydney for the Middle East on board HMAT Queen Mary on 26 December 1940. In April 1941, after further training in Palestine, the Regiment was sent to help defend the Suez Canal. They then served in Cyprus and Syria. They returned to Australia in March 1942, and further training were sent to New Guinea in September. From December 1942 the regiment took part in operations around Sanananda, New Guinea. Sgt Tease-Davis was killed in action on 3 January 1943. He was 26 years of age. In April 1944 the 7th Division Cavalry Regiment was reorganised and became the 2/7th Cavalry Regiment.
