Studio portrait of 4767 Private (Pte) Alfred Gregory Dale 8th Battalion of Ballarat, Vic. A carpenter prior to enlistment, Pte Dale embarked on board HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 7 March 1916. He served on the Western Front from July 1916 and was appointed Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) in May 1917. On 20 September 1917 L/Cpl Dale was killed in action at Menin Road near Ypres, Belgium. He was 23 years of age.
