Studio portrait of 1811 Private (Pte) Ernest Louis Pedler (also known as Pidler), 3rd Australian Pioneers, of Fitzroy, Vic. Formerly a labourer, Pte Pedler enlisted at Ganmain, NSW, on 1 May 1916 and as a member of the 2nd Reinforcements, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles, (A32), on 28 July 1916. He served on the Western Front in Belgium, where he died of wounds during the battle of Messines on 7 June 1917, aged 19 years.
