Studio portrait of 6124 Private (Pte) Charles Edmund Fordham, 16th Battalion, of Fremantle, WA. A clerk with W & J Fowler in Fremantle and a member of the 86th (Fremantle) Infantry, Citizens' Military Force (CMF) before enlisting in April 1916, Pte Fordham left Australia for England with the 19th Reinforcements in August 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in December 1916. Pte Fordham was wounded in the stomach in the Bazentin sector on 6 February 1916 and evacuated to the 45th Casualty Clearing Station at Dernancourt where he died the following day, aged 18.
