He was appointed Lieutenant in February 1917 soon after which he was transferred to 67th Squadron AFC on 15 May 1917. Soon after, on the 25 June 1917, Lt Brasell was reported killed in action; 'This officer left the Aerodrome at Deir-el-Belah on 25.6.1917 escorting a reconnaissance machine and flying a B.E 12 A. The reconnaissance was attacked by two hostile scouts and during the engagement 2nd/Lieutenant Brasell's machine was observed to go down in a steady spiral behind the Enemy's lines.
