Studio portrait of 5998 Private (Pte) James Newman Brealey, 16th Battalion, of Nannine, WA. A labourer before enlisting in March 1916, Pte Brealey left Australia for England with the 19th Reinforcements and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in December 1916. Pte Brealey was killed during the 4th Division's attack on the Hindenburg Line at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917, aged 20, and has no known grave.
