Medium size blackout headlight cover
Description
Round metal blackout headlight cover, of spot weld construction, featuring a cylinder with a backing plate to one end and a series of three hooded slots at the other end. A pair of mounting rails are attached to the rear. Painted grey.
History / Summary
Unknown. Headlight covers were compulsory for both military and civilian vehicles in Australia from late 1941until the end of 1943, when both the threat of invasion had diminished, and the startling increase in night-time vehicle accidents, especially in nothern Australia where their use was considered critical, caused their use to be curtailed. This is likely a military pattern example in a medium size, and, because of the grey paint, possibly used on either a RAN or RAAF vehicle.
