Studio portrait of NX55942 Private (Pte) Victor Albert Palmer, (left), Australian Army Service Corps attached to 2/12 Field Ambulance, of Rozelle, NSW. Pte Palmer enlisted at Paddington, NSW, on 2 July 1940 and served on the Hospital Ship Centaur. He was killed in action on 14 May 1943 when the Centaur was torpedoed and sunk by the Japanese submarine I-177, approximately 50 miles east north east of Brisbane. Also included in the portrait are Pte Palmer's brothers NX28777 Harold Palmer, a veteran from the First World War, (centre) and NX96896 Ronald Cecil Palmer (right).
