Description

A pair of Second World War United States Army paratrooper boots. The boots have a leather upper which is rough side out with a leather collar and two buckle straps sewn to the upper part of each boot. Each boot laces up to the top of the foot though six pairs of eyelet and then is secured by the two buckle straps. Inside each leather collar is the maker's stamp and serial number in black ink 'April 12, 1944 6 -D 12233 INTERNATIONAL SHOE CO CONTRACT NUMBER W.18 - 094 QM 1782 SPEC BQD 11Q BOSTON DEPOT'. The size of the boot is impressed into the leather near the maker's stamp '6 D'. The inside of the collar is partially lined with cotton canvas. The sole of the boot is rubber and it has been stitched and nailed to the upper part of the boot. Maker's details are written on the heels in raised lettering 'LIGHT - TREAD TRADE MARK TRIPLE WEAR .SA MBW'. Maker's details are also written on the soles in raised lettering 'HTS GRO CORD'.

The history of this pair of boots is unknown. This style of boots were trialled in 1943 and went into mass production in 1944.
