Studio portrait of 1717 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Edward Bathurst Beavis, 4th Battalion, of Bathurst, NSW, wearing a uniform with corporal's stripes. A photographer prior to enlistment, L Cpl Beavis embarked with the 4th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Shropshire on 17 March 1915. On 6 August 1915 he was killed in action at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, aged 22. The portrait was probably taken by L Cpl Beavis' father, Horace Colin Beavis, or his uncle, Charles James Beavis.
