Informal portrait of 427 Private (Pte) Donald Eric Blackhall, 1st Anzac Cyclist Battalion.Pte Blackhall, a labourer from Hastings, Tas prior to enlistment, embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Wiltshire on 22 August 1916. Later transferring to 24th Machine Gun Company, he was killed in action at Passchendaele on 17 October 1917, aged 21, and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
