Studio portrait of 2nd Lieutenant William Mackay (Mack) Turnbull, 151st Regiment, Royal Artillery. While in England as a student at Cambridge University, he enlisted in the Royal Artillery, commencing officer training in March 1941. He was sent to Ceylon and then Burma, serving with the Gurkhas. He was promoted to Lieutenant during this time. Five days prior to his 21st birthday he was killed in action near Kynatov on the Kaledon River, Burma, on 17 January 1943.
