Aircrew members, some of 78 Squadron RAF, watch J/86203 Flight Sergeant (Flt S) Thomas Lorne 'Schy' or 'Bugwood' Schioler RCAF (Rear Gunner) drink from a jug. Identified from left to right are: 1563039 Sergeant (Sgt) C. M. 'Mac' Macleod RAF (Navigator); 1522440 Sgt Desmond Terence 'Des' Cash RAF (Engineer); Sgt 'Taffy' Griffiths (Mid Upper Gunner); 409383 Flight Lieutenant Donald Frank 'Mac-Con' Constable, RAAF (Pilot); and Pilot Officer 'Houghie' Hough. Flt Sgt Schioler, Sgt Cash, and Flt Lt Constable DFC were all killed on 24 March 1944 when their Halifax aircraft LV903 was shot down and crashed near Eisenach, Germany. Sgt MacLeod was also a member of this crew, but survived the attack by parachuting out in time and was taken as a prisoner of war by the Germans.
