Collection relating to the Second World War service of WX19170 Gunner Leonard Cody, 2/3 Field Regiment, Second Australian Imperial Force, Australia, 1944.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one three-page letter from Gunner Cody’s sister, Mrs May Chester, to Private Henry 'Harry' Criddle, dated 4 September [1944]. In her letter to Private Criddle, Mrs Chester, on behalf of her mother, thanks him for his letter of condolence following the death of Gunner Cody. She writes that she was grateful that Private Criddle was with Gunner Cody when he died, thanks him for his description of the funeral, invites him to write to her mother again, and hopes that he will come safely through the war himself.
Gunner Leonard Cody enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 19 January 1942. He served with 2/3 Field Regiment in Queensland. Gunner Cody died of injuries in Australia on 1 August 1944, and is buried at Sydney War Cemetery.
