Studio portrait of 3325 Private (Pte) Stephen Greenfield, 1st Battalion, of Killingworth, NSW. A miner prior to enlistment, Pte Greenfield embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Themistocles on 5 October 1915. On 22 July 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres, France, aged 23. Pte Greenfield's brother, 774 Pte Albert Greenfield, was killed in action in France on 16 December 1916. Their brother-in-law, 1030 Pte Thomas Wood, was killed in action on 21 September 1915 at Gallipoli.
