Studio portrait of 417771 Aircraftman (later Flight Sergeant) Robert Gordon Frew, in civilian life a clerk of Broken Hill, NSW. He enlisted on August 15 1942, and after training was posted to 2 Squadron, RAAF. Frew’s aircraft took off on 3 April 1944 from Hughes air base in the Northern Territory to carry out a patrol in the Arafura Sea. It was thought that the aircraft crashed somewhere in this area but the remains were later found in the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory.
