Group portrait of a group of airmen, possibly a graduating air training group at Parkes. Identified is: front row, centre, 403827 Aircraftman (AC) (later Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt)) Josiah Turner RAAF. Flt Sgt Turner was educated at Tighe's Hill School and then worked as a costing clerk for the New South Wales Education Department in Sydney before enlisting on 3 March 1941. He embarked from Sydney for the United Kingdom on 11 August 1943. He was lost on operations on 7 July 1944 while part of the crew of a Wellington bomber on an operation to target Feuersbrun, near Vienna. Behind the group is a Fairey Battle TT (Target Tug) aircraft. The Battle TT was used for target tug towing by the RAF, RAAF, and RCAF from 1940; this example has been painted with strongly contrasting stripes to prevent it being mistaken for the target.
