Reconstruction Task Force 2 flag, Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan Province : Lieutenant Colonel H J Jarvie
Cream sewn Reconstruction Task Force 2 flag, featuring a bounding red kangaroo facing left, over a black boomerang bearing the words 'Reconstruction Task Force' in white, overlaid by a large number 2 in red. The design is repeated in mirror form on the reverse, also sewn, and it appears all design elements are backed to provide a padded feel. The sewn white nylon hoist tape incorporates a white nylon tie to which a pair of Ingerfield clips made by Moss are fastened. The maker's white nylon printed label is sewn to the hoist.
This flag was flown by Reconstruction Task Force 2 (RTF2), under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Harold James 'Harry' Jarvie, at Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan Province. RTF2 was Australia's contribution from April to October 2007 to the Dutch-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Southern Afghanistan.
RTF2 consisted of Combat Engineers and tradesmen from the Brisbane Based 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment (2CER) and 21st Construction Squadron, supported logistically by elements of 7 Brigade (also Brisbane based) and a force protection Combat Team consisting of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) from Townsville, an Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) Troop from C Sqn 2/14th Light Horse Regiment from Brisbane and Bushmaster crews from B Squadron 3/4 Cavalry Regiment from Townsville.
At a handover ceremony at Tarin Kowt on 12 October 2007 the flag was lowered for the last time by the Regimental Sergeant Major of RTF2, Warrant Officer Class 1 Noel Sean Channing Johansen and replaced by the flag of the incoming Reconstruction Task Force 3 (RTF3).
During their six months in Afghanistan, RTF2 completed many construction projects, including medical centres, schools and bridges, despite threats and violence from the Taliban.
