Studio portrait of 4758 Private (Pte) Daniel Jarvis (seated) and 4759 Pte Ephraim Jarvis, both 28th Battalion, of Leederville, Western Australia. The brothers enlisted in Perth on 1 March 1916 and embarked together on 17 April 1916 aboard HMAT Aeneas (A60) from Fremantle. On 15 April 1917, their older brother 3379 Pte Reuben Jarvis, 11th Battalion, was captured at Boursies. Their parents received three telegrams in May 1917, the first, on the 6th, informing them Reuben was a prisoner of war, the second on the 9th informing them that Ephraim was killed in action and the third on the 19th informing them that Daniel was seriously wounded in action. Reuben was released from captivity at the end of the war and returned to Australia. Daniel recovered from gun shot wounds to the chest and also returned in 1919. Ephraim was killed in action at Bullecourt on 20 April 1917 at the age of 21 and has no known grave.
