Studio portrait of 19839 Chief Engine Room Artificer (CERA) John James Madge, RAN, of Sydney, NSW. CERA Madge enlisted in the RAN on 7 August 1933, and joined the crew of HMAS Perth on 23 April 1940. He was killed in action on 1 March 1942 when HMAS Perth was sunk by Japanese destroyers in the Sunda Strait. He was 32 years old.
