Description

Studio portrait of 6480 Private (Pte) Clement Bernard (Clem) Connell, 1st Battalion, of Penshurst, NSW (right), with his wife Maud. A school teacher before enlisting on 16 May 1916, Pte Connell embarked from Sydney on HMAT Ceramic with the 21st Reinforcements on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action in Belgium on 21 September 1917, at the age of 27. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres.
