Description
Informal portrait of Lance Corporal (LCpl) Athur Marshall McIntosh, 1st Battalion, performing dental work. A dentist prior to enlistment on 16 September 1914, LCpl McIntosh embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Afric on 18 October. He served at Gallipoli for three months before being awarded an honorary commission by General Birdwood on 6 August 1915, and detached to duties with the Dental Corps. He was promoted to Captain on 6 April 1917 and returned to Australia at the end of the war. The identity of the patient is unknown.
