Description

Outdoor portrait of officers from the Australian Flying Corps. Identified second from left is Lieutenant (Lt) Geoffrey Dunster Allen. An accountant from Haberfield with over five years service in the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF), Allen enlisted with the Australian Flying Corps on 15 June 1917. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on the 4 August 1917. Lt Allen was killed on 7 September 1918 when his Sopwith Camel (No. C.106) crashed near Minchinhampton whilst on training duties. He is buried at Leighterton Cemetery. The identity of the other officers is unknown.
