Informal portrait of 49 Trooper (Tpr) Malcolm St John Lamb, 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse, on horseback in South Africa. He enlisted on 15 January 1902, and embarked from Sydney on the SS Custodian on 18 February 1902 with A Squadron. He returned to Australia on 11 August 1902. He later served in the First World War, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and commanding the 34th Battalion.
