Description
Studio portrait of 4127 (4127A) Sergeant (Sgt) Charles Harvest Andrews, 54th Battalion, and Corporal Sharpe, possibly also of the 54th Battalion, but certainly the 5th Division. A teamster of Singleton, NSW, Private Andrews embarked from Sydney on 20 December 1915 with the 1st Battalion and was transferred to the 54th Battalion on arrival in Egypt. In December 1916 he was appointed Lance Corporal, then Sergeant in January 1917 and later promoted to Company Sergeant Major on 23 March 1918. A day later he was killed in action near Irish House near Warneton. He has no known grave and is memorialised on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
