Description

Studio portrait of 434470 Aircraftman Ross Faulkner McMaster, RAAF, of Brisbane Qld, after undertaking initial flying training at Narromine, NSW, to become a pilot. Later he flew with 460 Squadron RAAF and was promoted to Pilot Officer (PO). PO McMaster was the pilot of Lancaster bomber NE141, radio call sign AR-P which left RAF Station Binbrook, Lincolnshire, with 22 other aircraft on the afternoon of 21 November 1944 as part of a raid on Aschaffenburg Germany. There was no communication with NE 141 after take off and it did not return to base. It was later established that NE 141 crashed at Damm near Aschaffenburg , killing all on board. PO McMaster was 20 years of age.
