Description
recto: Sketch on a leaf torn from a small sketchpad, depicting a soldier bent over carrying buckets of water hanging off a pole across his shoulders. His slouch hat is pulled down over his eyes and left foot is turned slightly inward, suggesting unstable footing either from the weight of his burden or the rocky ground; verso: preliminary figure sketches of water carriers.
