Telephone dugout
Sketchbook containing 56 pages of drawings from his service during the First World War
- Scrapbook leaf with three sketches and inscriptions; verso: extended inscription
Description
Sketch on a leaf torn from a small sketchpad, depicting a figure in a telephone dugout at the rear of the 9th Battery Observation Post. Benson indicates in his inscription that "it was built just above the fire trench held by [the] 3rd Infantry Brigade. This O.P. gave fine opportunities for observation over all the country shown in my sketch from the naval elation."
