Description
Studio portrait of 3531 Corporal (Cpl) George John West, 9th Battalion, of Brisbane, Qld. Formerly a shop assistant, Cpl West enlisted on 31 July 1915 and as a member of the 11th Reinforcements he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Warilda (A69) on 5 October 1915. He served later on the Western Front with the 49th Battalion where he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, France, on 3 September 1916, aged 21 years.
