Composite studio portrait of 4068 Private (Pte) Patrick Thomas George Baird (left), 28th Battalion, of Busselton then Carnavon, WA, and his father, 6729 Pte Patrick David Baird, 16th Battalion, of Busselton, WA. A light keeper prior to enlistment, 4068 Pte Baird embarked with the 10th Reinforcements from Fremantle on HMAT Ulysses on 1 April 1916. He was killed in action at Fleurs, France on 3 November 1916, aged 21. His father, 6729 Pte Baird was a farmer prior to enlistment. He embarked with the 22nd Reinforcements of the 16th Battalion from Fremantle on HMAT Argyllshire on 9 November 1916. After twice being wounded in France in 1918, and suffering from the effects of the wounds and illness, Pte Baird returned to Australia on 17 June 1918. He died of illness on 20 February 1921, aged 46.
