Studio portrait of 406244 Sergeant (Sgt) William John Halliday, 450 Squadron RAAF, of Wembley Park, WA. A linotype operator before enlisting on 7 October 1940, Sgt Halliday was presumed to have been killed on 13 June 1942. He was pilot of a Kittyhawk aircraft, AL 117, that was protecting a group of bombers attacking a target in the El Adem area. A group of enemy aircraft were encountered and Sgt Halliday's aircraft was seen to have been shot down in the ensuing combat. He was 20 years old.
