Studio portrait of 2434 Sapper (Spr) William Arthur Stirling, 1st Field Company Engineers, of Waverley, NSW. A carpenter before enlisting on 8 September 1915, he embarked on RMS Mooltan on 11 December 1915 from Sydney with the 12th Reinforcements. He was killed in action while serving with the 14th Field Company Engineers in France on 6 November 1916. He is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux memorial.
