Studio portrait of 3401 Private (Pte) Herbert Vivian Holdford, 56th Battalion, of Lithgow, NSW. A railway porter prior to enlistment in November 1916, Pte Holdford embarked on board HMAT Anchises (A68) with the 2 to 9 Reinforcements on 24 January 1917. Pte Holdford served in France and Belgium and was killed in action on 1 September 1918 at Peronne, France. He was 25 years of age.
