Studio portrait of 907 Private (Pte) Alfred Ernest Turner 3rd Battalion of Tamworth, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting in August 1914, Pte Turner embarked on board HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. He served at Gallipoli, where he was wounded on 25 April 1915, Palestine and the Western Front. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in February 1916 and then Temporary Corporal (T/Cpl) in July 1916. Cpl Turner was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 24 July 1916. He was 26 years of age.
