Cullen, Robert Macquarie (Private, b.1894 - d.1973)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2871 Private Robert Macquarie Cullen, 1 Light Horse Regiment, AIF. Collection consists of two original handwritten letters written by Private Cullen to his brother William whilst serving with the Light Horse. The letters discuss casualties and battles, camp life and conditions, Christmas celebrations, home life back in Australia, mail, and mention other servicemen by name and sometimes service number. Also included in the collection are typed transcripts of the original letters. Private Cullen was a farmer prior to enlistment and embarked from Sydney NSW aboard RMS Malwa on 22 July 1916. In December 1918 he was injured when a horse kicked him in the shoulder and as a result he was given a medical discharge and returned home to Australia in 1919.
