Studio portrait of 2499 Private (Pte) Cecil James Stewart, 49th Battalion, of Nimbin, NSW. A 21 year old farmer at enlistment, he embarked on 19 September 1916 from Brisbane with the 5th Reinforcements on HMAT Seang Choon. Pte Stewart was killed in action at Dernancourt, France, on 5 April 1918, aged 23.
