Informal outdoor portrait of 145 Private (Pte) (later Lance Corporal) Hector Leslie Deslandes (left), 6th Company Machine Gun Company, of Inglewood, Vic; and an unidentified member of another Machine Gun Company. Pte Deslandes was a labourer before enlisting on 3 February 1915. He embarked from Melbourne on 10 May 1915 with A Company, 22nd Battalion. He was killed in action at the age of 23 in Belgium on 9 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
