Studio portrait of 2022 Sergeant (later Lieutenant (Lt)) Harold Hubert "Paddy" Thompson, 18th Battalion. Private Thompson, previously a builder of Hurstville, NSW, embarked with the 3rd Reinforcements on HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. Promoted to Sergeant in November 1916, he was later promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in August 1917 and then Lieutenant in November 1917. Lt Thompson died of wounds on 15 April 1918; he was aged 29.
