Studio portrait of 11 Driver (Drv) Albert Oliver Norman, 18th Battalion, of Bowral, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting in April 1915, Pte Norman embarked from Sydney on board HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He arrived at Anzac Cove in August 1915 and remained until evacuation in December. The battalion underwent further training in Egypt and arrived in France in March 1916. Pte Norman died on 16 September 1917 when he was fatally wounded in action near Hell Fire Corner, Ypres, Belgium. He was travelling at the rear of a column of pack horses when he was hit by a shell. He was 28 years of age.
