Studio portrait of 421203 Sergeant (Sgt) Ronald Bede Goodwin, RAAF, of Lane Cove, NSW. Sgt Goodwin enlisted on 31 January 1942. Later promoted to the rank of Pilot Officer (PO), he was transferred to the United Kingdom and attached to No. 86 Squadron RAF. While conducting a patrol over Skagerrak, Norway, flying a Liberator KH338, PO Goodwin and his crew were reported missing in action. Following an investigation by the Air Ministry that failed to find any trace of the aircraft, PO Goodwin was listed as presumed dead, aged 21, on 26 April 1945. He has no known grave, and his name is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, United Kingdom.
