Studio portrait of 1728 Private (Pte) Alfred Edwin Sawtell, 48th Battalion, of Roseberry, SA. A labourer prior to enlisting in February 1916, Pte Sawtell embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 11 April 1916. On 19 February 1917 he was wounded in action at Flers, France. On 2 March 1917 he died of his wounds at 45 Casualty Clearing Station. He was 24 years of age.
