Collection relating to the Second World War service of 428957 Sergeant Donald William Robert Dixon, 3 Advanced Flying Unit, Royal Australian Air Force, Canada and United Kingdom, 1943-1944.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Collection consists of three letters from Sergeant Dixon to Miss Roberta Haadsma, one letter from the RAAF to Miss Haadsma, and one souvenir postcard for the YMCA in Chicago, Illinois, United States. In his letters to Miss Haadsma, dated between 29 December 1943 and 29 May 1944, Sergeant Dixon writes of doing a bombing and gunnery course at Lethbridge, Alberta, spending Christmas leave in the Canadian Rockies and seeing snow for the first time, ice skating, finishing his course, graduating, leave and sightseeing in New York, training in different parts of England, looking forward to being on operations, getting lost on English country roads, and sightseeing at Stratford-on-Avon. The letter from the Royal Australian Air Force to Miss Haadsma, dated 18 October 1944, informs her of Sergeant Dixon’s death and burial.
