Description

The armoured bulldozer 'Brutus' and another in the background at the 17th Construction Squadron or 1 Field Squadron depot, Nui Dat. 'Brutus' has been fitted with a tree splitting blade known as a Rome plough and has twin ripping claws fitted at the rear. These vehicles were used to clear large areas of jungle and mine fields often under arduous and stressful conditions. Because of the extreme tropical heat, the engines of these vehicles were always operating in the red and were often replaced after only one thousand hours of operation.
