Autographed postcard sent from 3588 Lt Harold William Parle MC to 'Mabel' while at sea, 20 January 1916. The card contains autographs of men from his company across the front. Parle had written a message on the reverse of the card to Mabel during his voyage on the troopship HMAT A35 Berrima in January 1916 with other members of the 19th Battalion. Parle was awarded the Military Cross in 1919 for 'marked gallantry and dash' for events in France in 1918. Parle returned to Australia and wed Mabel Simmonds on 30 August 1919. Also serving in the Second World War, Parle achieved the rank of Captain. He died in 1976.
