Studio portrait of 3698 Private Roy James Gladstone Burr (sitting) and 3743 Private Sam Robinson. Both enlisted in the 12th Battalion in August 1915. Pte Burr was a labourer from Eudunda, SA. Pte Robinson, was an engine cleaner from Wallaroo, SA; formerly of Shropshire, England. Both embarked from Adelaide aboard RMS Malwa on 2 December 1915. They arrived in Egypt in January 1916 and in March both were transferred to the 52nd Battalion. Pte Burr was appointed Driver in May 1916 and arrived in France on 12 June. He was reported wounded and missing in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France, between 3 and 4 September 1916. It was later confirmed that Driver Burr had been killed in action. He was 25 years of age. Robinson was transferred to the 24th Howitzer Brigade and arrived in France on 13 June 1916. Gunner Robinson was killed in action on the Somme on 26 November 1916. He was 22 years of age.
