Studio portrait of QX18017 Private, later Corporal, Ralph Graham Davidson, 2/25 Battalion, of Karara, Qld. Pte Davidson was a bank clerk prior to enlisting in August 1940. The 2/25 Battalion trained at Brisbane and Darwin from October 1940 until February 1941 and left Sydney for the Middle East on 7 April 1941. In Egypt they established and maintained defences along the border with Libya and took part in the invasion of Syria and Lebanon. They returned to Adelaide in March 1942 and underwent further training before arriving in Port Moresby, New Guinea, on 9 September. The 2/25 Battalion took part in the last Australian withdrawal along the Kokoda Trail and fought major battles near Templeton's Crossing and Gorari. Corporal Davidson was killed in action at Gorari on 11 November 1942. He was 23 years of age.
