Description
The grave of 141 Private (Pte) William Marshall in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, France. Pte Marshall of Adelaide SA, enlisted in the 27th Battalion on 4 February 1915. A grocer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Geelong (A2) on 31 May 1915. He arrived with the 27th Battalion at Gallipoli in September 1915 and remained until the evacuation in December. In March 1916 the Battalion was sent to France for service on the Western Front. Pte Marshall was wounded in action in France on 29 June 1916 and died of his wounds the next morning. He was 20 years of age.
